Why is it important to Christians that the Bible is historically accurate? Our faith is based on many historical events - the call of Abraham, Moses and the giving of the law, the prophets and the life, death and resurrection of Jesus are all historical events. Our faith is based on history.
Why is it important that the texts of the Bible are reliable? Many people have conscious or unconscious beliefs that the Bible texts we possess have not been well preserved or that errors have crept in as the manuscripts were copied over the centuries. Some even believe that there is a conspiracy to exclude many other "gospels" that give a different picture of Jesus or other books / manuscripts of the Old and New Testament that undermine orthodox Christian belief.
